Um , 00:37.425 --> 00:39.480 anytime we bring content to you , we 00:39.480 --> 00:41.702 want to help you to , uh , improve your 00:41.702 --> 00:43.702 life , to grow , to increase your , 00:43.702 --> 00:45.480 your skills and ability to stay 00:45.480 --> 00:47.480 resilient . And so we bring in some 00:47.480 --> 00:49.702 great guests at times to do some , um , 00:49.702 --> 00:51.758 uh , to share just , just some great 00:51.758 --> 00:53.980 topics . We'll also bring airmen in and 00:53.980 --> 00:56.147 today I'm , I'm really excited that we 00:56.147 --> 00:58.313 have , uh , we have Tammy here from us 00:58.313 --> 00:58.169 f Family Health Plans and the reason 00:58.180 --> 01:00.347 I'm , I'm excited to bring her in here 01:00.347 --> 01:02.580 because I work with , um , so many of 01:02.590 --> 01:06.089 you both uh full timers , part timers 01:06.099 --> 01:08.750 and come to realize that when it comes 01:08.760 --> 01:10.927 to health insurance , some of us don't 01:10.927 --> 01:12.839 have the health insurance that we 01:12.849 --> 01:15.250 actually are afforded this benefit to 01:15.260 --> 01:17.482 and we just forget about it or we don't 01:17.482 --> 01:19.593 know about it . So we're really gonna 01:19.593 --> 01:21.760 stress this is a great resource that's 01:21.760 --> 01:23.482 available for everybody that's 01:23.482 --> 01:25.649 listening to this right now today . Um 01:25.649 --> 01:25.580 Even if you're a civilian , you , you 01:25.589 --> 01:27.756 have civilian benefits as well , but , 01:27.756 --> 01:29.867 but this is primarily gonna just help 01:29.867 --> 01:32.769 you see , uh maybe who us family health 01:32.779 --> 01:35.410 plans uh really is how they work with 01:35.419 --> 01:37.308 and they , they , they're part of 01:37.308 --> 01:39.252 Tricare , but it's a great , great 01:39.252 --> 01:41.586 health plan . And so , uh don't , don't , 01:41.586 --> 01:43.808 don't step away from this podcast right 01:43.808 --> 01:46.030 now . You wanna listen to this cause if 01:46.030 --> 01:45.970 you're single , you wanna listen to 01:45.980 --> 01:48.091 this , you got great health options . 01:48.091 --> 01:50.202 Now , if you're uh you know , married 01:50.202 --> 01:51.980 and maybe you , you have health 01:51.980 --> 01:54.091 insurance somewhere else , um This is 01:54.091 --> 01:56.202 probably better than what you have to 01:56.202 --> 01:58.424 be honest with you . But so I'm excited 01:58.424 --> 02:00.424 that I'd have Tammy here . Um She's 02:00.424 --> 02:02.647 gonna just jump in here in a second and 02:02.647 --> 02:04.869 give her background and then , uh we're 02:04.869 --> 02:07.036 gonna kind of dive into this . So , so 02:07.036 --> 02:06.779 Tammy , thanks for being here today . 02:06.849 --> 02:09.071 Um First of all , can you let everybody 02:09.071 --> 02:10.849 know um what your background is 02:10.849 --> 02:12.793 regarding your service and um what 02:12.793 --> 02:15.016 you're currently doing with us ? Family 02:15.016 --> 02:17.182 health plans . Yes , thank , thank you 02:17.182 --> 02:19.293 so much for having me chaplain . This 02:19.293 --> 02:21.293 is awesome being here . Um , as you 02:21.293 --> 02:23.516 said , my name is Tammy Cartagena . I'm 02:23.516 --> 02:22.919 retired . I couldn't say your last name , 02:22.929 --> 02:25.096 by the way , that's why I didn't say . 02:25.096 --> 02:27.710 All right . Uh , Cartagena . Um , 02:28.020 --> 02:30.399 anyway , uh , I am a retired senior 02:30.410 --> 02:32.589 master sergeant . I spent 30 years in 02:32.600 --> 02:34.830 the Air National Guard at the 108 out 02:34.839 --> 02:37.380 in New Jersey as a weather forecaster 02:37.389 --> 02:39.889 for the 1st 24 years and then six years 02:39.899 --> 02:42.121 for the , as a human resource advisor . 02:42.121 --> 02:44.270 So I spent that uh at the wing . Um I 02:44.279 --> 02:46.809 also taught for the academy . Uh I was 02:46.820 --> 02:49.169 an academy instructor for the 108 . I 02:49.179 --> 02:53.029 also um deployed in 2003 actually with 02:53.139 --> 02:56.110 members out of the 1/11 . Uh we were uh 02:56.119 --> 02:58.289 for the weather career field . So 02:58.300 --> 03:00.600 that's my um my military background , 03:01.270 --> 03:03.610 uh civilian background . I've done 03:03.619 --> 03:05.675 everything from working in a Chinese 03:05.675 --> 03:08.690 restaurant uh to uh working , I worked 03:08.699 --> 03:10.699 for girl scouts , worked for an oil 03:10.699 --> 03:13.490 company , uh Bel Ray . Then I uh when I 03:13.500 --> 03:17.309 came back from Iraq in 2003 , I 03:17.320 --> 03:19.759 started working for ESGR , did that for 03:19.770 --> 03:21.826 about 10 years and then went to work 03:21.826 --> 03:24.149 for the VA so I did some be benefits . 03:24.350 --> 03:26.600 So basically I have the gamut of health 03:26.610 --> 03:30.389 care uh va benefits and any , any 03:30.399 --> 03:32.649 employment and education benefits that 03:32.660 --> 03:35.160 the service members could use . Very 03:35.169 --> 03:37.225 good . Yeah , so you have a wide and 03:37.225 --> 03:39.391 eclectic background . When it comes to 03:39.391 --> 03:41.502 just benefits , benefits are tough to 03:41.502 --> 03:41.100 navigate and challenge . And I think 03:41.110 --> 03:43.277 that's potentially could be one of the 03:43.277 --> 03:45.499 reasons why some of our service members 03:45.499 --> 03:47.619 don't have and , you know , purchased 03:47.630 --> 03:50.259 Tricare , for instance , Tricare , it's 03:50.270 --> 03:52.440 called standard now , but it's 03:52.449 --> 03:54.449 available for anyone that wears the 03:54.449 --> 03:56.449 uniform . If you're full time , you 03:56.449 --> 03:58.616 obviously don't pay for it . But a lot 03:58.616 --> 03:58.220 of our part timers , right ? Don't , 03:58.229 --> 04:00.451 don't have this benefit . So let me ask 04:00.451 --> 04:02.562 you this question . You , you've been 04:02.562 --> 04:04.451 working specifically at us family 04:04.451 --> 04:04.229 health plans for how long ? Again ? 04:04.740 --> 04:07.360 Four years ? Um , do you come across , 04:07.369 --> 04:09.770 uh , part timers ? And because you work 04:09.779 --> 04:11.890 with all branches of service , I work 04:11.890 --> 04:14.168 with all branches of service , uh , um , 04:14.168 --> 04:16.279 reserve components , uh , active duty 04:16.279 --> 04:18.839 and , uh , gold star families . Um , 04:18.850 --> 04:21.690 you know , anybody that , uh , retirees , 04:21.929 --> 04:23.818 uh , I work with anybody who ever 04:23.818 --> 04:25.651 served in the military and their 04:25.651 --> 04:28.739 families . So , do you come across , um , 04:28.750 --> 04:31.119 service members that , that don't have , 04:31.130 --> 04:33.352 that just are like , oh , I didn't know 04:33.352 --> 04:35.519 I was eligible for Tricare every day , 04:35.519 --> 04:37.574 every day , every single day , every 04:37.574 --> 04:39.899 single day . So , uh , my company , uh , 04:39.910 --> 04:42.880 being , uh , who they are , send out 04:42.890 --> 04:45.480 mailers to our service members and , 04:45.510 --> 04:47.677 and really , it's the only people that 04:47.677 --> 04:49.677 they send mailers to are the people 04:49.677 --> 04:51.566 that are eligible . And I'll have 04:51.566 --> 04:53.700 people call me and they'll not know 04:53.709 --> 04:56.480 that for 20 years they've been eligible 04:56.489 --> 04:59.000 for Tricare benefit and did not know . 04:59.250 --> 05:02.500 Um , I get in front of young service 05:02.510 --> 05:04.799 members who do not know about Tricare 05:04.809 --> 05:07.519 Reserve select . Um , and I , that's 05:07.529 --> 05:10.089 what I do . I'm retired military and I 05:10.100 --> 05:12.100 feel like I need to get in front of 05:12.100 --> 05:14.100 these people and tell them , look , 05:14.100 --> 05:16.029 you're eligible for benefits and 05:16.140 --> 05:18.220 whether it's Tricare Reserve select 05:18.230 --> 05:20.410 Tricare select Tricare young adult 05:20.480 --> 05:22.839 Tricare uh prime , you know , there's 05:22.850 --> 05:25.920 so many different avenues to Tricare . 05:26.420 --> 05:29.079 Even over 65 people that get Medicare 05:29.089 --> 05:31.329 part B are eligible for Tricare for 05:31.339 --> 05:33.880 life and they don't know it and they 05:33.890 --> 05:36.049 don't know it literally . I work with 05:36.059 --> 05:40.010 um uh many , many organizations to help 05:40.019 --> 05:42.709 our service members know their benefits . 05:42.859 --> 05:45.081 Well , so just because you connect with 05:45.081 --> 05:47.192 these individuals and they don't know 05:47.192 --> 05:49.248 about it . Um I'm , I'm assuming you 05:49.248 --> 05:51.137 have some interaction with them . 05:51.137 --> 05:53.359 What's , what's their excuse or reason 05:53.369 --> 05:55.480 for not taking advantage of it ? They 05:55.480 --> 05:57.647 just again , they don't know , again , 05:57.647 --> 05:59.980 they don't know . It is so unbelievable . 05:59.980 --> 06:02.239 Um This one gentleman 21 years 06:02.250 --> 06:04.306 literally cried to me on the phone , 06:04.306 --> 06:06.640 $1200 a month . He paid for his family 06:06.910 --> 06:09.549 $1200 a month for 21 years . He says , 06:09.559 --> 06:12.510 Tammy , that was my college , that was 06:12.519 --> 06:14.630 my kid's college tuition . Could have 06:14.630 --> 06:17.769 been paid 21 years and he was eligible 06:17.779 --> 06:20.510 for Tricare Prime all along and could 06:20.519 --> 06:23.299 have been paying $50 a month , $50 a 06:23.309 --> 06:25.809 month as a retiree Ok . I , I wanna 06:25.820 --> 06:28.369 plug Tricare for a second because I , 06:28.380 --> 06:30.929 I'm full time now . But I , I had a 06:30.940 --> 06:33.440 long 14 year run where I was a 06:33.450 --> 06:36.459 traditional Guardsman and when Tricare 06:36.470 --> 06:38.581 became eligible for the first time to 06:38.581 --> 06:40.692 the Reserves , which I can't remember 06:40.692 --> 06:40.489 the year . Do you remember , what , 06:40.609 --> 06:42.609 about 10 years ago ? Because it was 06:42.609 --> 06:44.720 after I retired . It makes sense . It 06:44.720 --> 06:46.887 was about 10 years because my son's 11 06:46.887 --> 06:46.859 and he was the only one that I used 06:46.869 --> 06:49.130 Tricare for when we delivered . You 06:49.140 --> 06:51.307 know , my , my third child , the first 06:51.307 --> 06:53.418 two were on private insurances . Very 06:53.418 --> 06:56.230 expensive . Uh , you know , I spent 06:56.239 --> 06:58.461 thousands of dollars out of pocket to , 06:58.461 --> 07:00.461 to deliver them and all the O GB YN 07:00.461 --> 07:02.572 visits . My wife had to go through my 07:02.572 --> 07:04.739 son though the 11 year old . So I just 07:04.739 --> 07:06.739 got on to Tricare because it became 07:06.739 --> 07:10.549 eligible um to us and it 07:10.559 --> 07:13.049 was $18 I think , total out of pocket , 07:13.070 --> 07:15.237 total out of pocket . I've had Tricare 07:15.237 --> 07:17.237 ever since I will never go back . I 07:17.237 --> 07:19.459 would never even consider anything else 07:19.459 --> 07:21.514 because it's just that good . Um And 07:21.514 --> 07:23.829 the small monthly payment you , you , 07:23.839 --> 07:26.619 you pay , uh compared to what's out in 07:26.630 --> 07:28.741 the civilian world is amazing to me . 07:28.741 --> 07:30.908 So , so that's , that's you're talking 07:30.908 --> 07:32.908 Tricare Reserve Select . So Tricare 07:32.908 --> 07:35.179 reserve select is , is really for those 07:35.190 --> 07:37.910 that are serving in as a traditional , 07:38.000 --> 07:40.222 in traditional status . So , you know , 07:40.222 --> 07:42.500 reservist , uh you one week in a month , 07:42.500 --> 07:44.722 you two weeks in the summer . It , it's 07:44.722 --> 07:47.029 totally for them . Um , it's about 48 07:47.040 --> 07:51.000 hun , $48 a month for a single . And I 07:51.010 --> 07:54.429 think it's a , uh , 22 , 42 50 for , 07:54.440 --> 07:57.470 for a family . Yeah , 250 for family . 07:57.630 --> 07:59.600 So , um , I actually had a , a 07:59.609 --> 08:01.940 gentleman who got up and did a 08:01.950 --> 08:03.950 testimony for me at an event and he 08:03.950 --> 08:06.233 said , look , he said I paid $10,000 08:06.243 --> 08:08.465 for my child . I joined the service , I 08:08.465 --> 08:10.743 got the Tricare uh Reserve Select . Uh , 08:10.743 --> 08:12.854 my next child was born and he said he 08:12.854 --> 08:15.592 paid less than $1000 out of pocket . So , 08:15.602 --> 08:18.203 so it's amazing . And again , our 08:18.213 --> 08:20.632 traditionals , a lot of them don't know 08:20.643 --> 08:23.493 that they can use it instead of their , 08:23.683 --> 08:27.376 their , um health care . And sometimes 08:27.385 --> 08:29.996 even this , the employer might even 08:30.006 --> 08:32.173 give you money towards it . They might 08:32.173 --> 08:34.339 even pay for it if you don't use their 08:34.339 --> 08:36.736 insurance because they're paying a good 08:36.745 --> 08:39.056 portion of your insurance . Mine did 08:39.065 --> 08:41.176 actually , I got $1000 a year and you 08:41.176 --> 08:43.075 got $1000 paid anything for this 08:43.085 --> 08:45.640 insurance and you have really low , you 08:45.650 --> 08:48.890 know , there's no like fees that are on 08:48.900 --> 08:51.178 top of it , co-pays , things like that . 08:51.178 --> 08:53.233 So , so that , that's Tricare Select 08:53.530 --> 08:55.586 Reserve , it's called standard , not 08:55.586 --> 08:57.419 think it's actually changed from 08:57.419 --> 09:00.349 standard to select . So it's , it's 09:00.359 --> 09:03.340 called TRS Tricare Reserve select . And 09:03.349 --> 09:06.270 uh , yeah , it is definitely for our , 09:06.280 --> 09:08.739 our younger people coming out . I know 09:08.750 --> 09:10.694 a lot of them are , are covered by 09:10.694 --> 09:12.750 their parents . But even this , they 09:12.750 --> 09:14.806 might be able to use this instead of 09:14.806 --> 09:16.861 their parents and their parents some 09:16.861 --> 09:18.972 money . So this is , this is a really 09:18.972 --> 09:21.194 great benefit . Um So this is , this is 09:21.194 --> 09:23.565 one part of Tricare and then there are 09:23.575 --> 09:26.085 many more . We're , we're gonna get 09:26.096 --> 09:28.255 into you specifically because so if 09:28.265 --> 09:30.321 you're listening to this , there's a 09:30.321 --> 09:32.376 foot stamp right here . If you don't 09:32.376 --> 09:34.321 have it , why not ? Why aren't you 09:34.321 --> 09:34.015 looking into it ? I mean , even 09:34.026 --> 09:35.859 compared to your civilian trip , 09:35.859 --> 09:38.082 civilian insurance , you should do this 09:38.082 --> 09:40.193 and share this with somebody at the , 09:40.193 --> 09:42.359 at your wing or if you're listening to 09:42.359 --> 09:44.693 this and you're a soldier , um , marine , 09:44.693 --> 09:46.748 I don't know anybody , you know , in 09:46.748 --> 09:48.748 uniform , talk to them about this , 09:48.748 --> 09:51.026 right ? Um And so , you know , if it's , 09:51.026 --> 09:53.248 if it's confusing to you , uh , talk to 09:53.248 --> 09:55.359 your leadership about , uh , they can 09:55.359 --> 09:57.582 help you . Um , or maybe Tammy even can 09:57.582 --> 09:59.582 share , how does somebody listen to 09:59.582 --> 10:02.190 this podcast enroll in ? There's 10:02.200 --> 10:04.422 actually two ways they can go on to mil 10:04.422 --> 10:06.589 connect , everybody has milk , connect 10:06.589 --> 10:08.811 every branch of the service or they can 10:08.811 --> 10:11.033 just call , uh , the , the 1 800 number 10:11.033 --> 10:13.200 for Humana . Humana actually runs that 10:13.200 --> 10:15.210 program . It's 1 804 10:15.219 --> 10:18.520 445445 . That's 10:19.700 --> 10:22.719 1 804 44 , 10:23.359 --> 10:26.989 5445 . Fantastic . So there's no 10:27.000 --> 10:29.222 excuse now to get information , even if 10:29.222 --> 10:31.333 you're not certain you want to switch 10:31.333 --> 10:33.444 over , it's something to consider and 10:33.444 --> 10:35.611 look into . So that , that's the first 10:35.611 --> 10:37.833 thing that I'm , I'm , I'm excited that 10:37.833 --> 10:40.111 you uh you're excited about it as well . 10:40.111 --> 10:39.729 But so let's talk now a little bit 10:39.739 --> 10:42.070 about us family health plan because I 10:42.080 --> 10:44.247 know folks at our wing because we have 10:44.247 --> 10:46.469 a full time mission here and they're on 10:46.469 --> 10:48.247 different statuses . This is uh 10:48.247 --> 10:50.530 confusing to all of them who have 10:50.539 --> 10:52.880 Tricare that Tricare Prime remote , 10:52.890 --> 10:54.890 right ? Tricare Prime , there's all 10:54.890 --> 10:56.668 kinds of different . So this is 10:56.668 --> 10:58.890 confusing as well . So us family health 10:58.890 --> 11:01.001 plans . Um how does this all fit into 11:01.001 --> 11:03.390 the bigger picture of Tricare ? So the 11:03.400 --> 11:05.456 people here on the base , those that 11:05.456 --> 11:08.770 are in uniform ? Yes , they use Tricare 11:08.780 --> 11:11.260 Prime or Tricare Prime remote . When 11:11.270 --> 11:14.080 you are in uniform , you must use 11:14.090 --> 11:17.710 Humana . It is and you have no choice 11:17.719 --> 11:19.719 but to use Tricare Prime or Tricare 11:19.719 --> 11:21.886 Prime remote . This is , this is the , 11:21.886 --> 11:23.775 these are individuals that are on 11:23.775 --> 11:25.719 orders , orders . We're gonna talk 11:25.719 --> 11:27.775 about the active duty service member 11:27.775 --> 11:30.400 over 31 days of orders , ok ? Or if 11:30.409 --> 11:33.059 you're gonna be put into contingency 11:33.070 --> 11:35.619 orders , you get six months of early 11:35.630 --> 11:38.000 eligibility . So I'm talking about the 11:38.010 --> 11:40.159 service member themselves and their 11:40.169 --> 11:43.085 eligibility and they , you have to use 11:43.094 --> 11:45.205 like I said , Tricare Prime . Tricare 11:45.205 --> 11:47.372 Prime remote , Tricare Prime is if you 11:47.372 --> 11:49.885 live within 50 mile radius of a 11:49.895 --> 11:53.085 military treatment facility , ie 11:53.395 --> 11:55.617 Maguire Air Force Base . Ok . So you're 11:55.617 --> 11:57.673 by the right here would be Maguire . 11:57.673 --> 11:59.875 Exactly . Exactly . Um , we do have 11:59.885 --> 12:02.107 people that actually live near Carlisle 12:02.107 --> 12:04.218 barracks out near Harrisburg and they 12:04.218 --> 12:06.835 have to use that , uh , facility if 12:06.844 --> 12:10.489 they're on orders or we can go 12:10.500 --> 12:12.556 Tricare Prime remote . Tricare Prime 12:12.556 --> 12:14.590 remote means that you're outside of 12:14.599 --> 12:17.309 that 50 mile range or you're in a 12:17.320 --> 12:19.590 status that you would not be able to 12:19.599 --> 12:22.669 use Maguire . So we could figure that 12:22.679 --> 12:24.623 out and help you get Tricare Prime 12:24.623 --> 12:26.789 remote where you can use civilian 12:26.799 --> 12:29.820 doctors which are closer to your home . 12:29.880 --> 12:32.200 So that's what Tricare Prime remote is 12:32.210 --> 12:34.929 all about . Again , that is nothing to 12:34.940 --> 12:37.140 do with the family members . So if you 12:37.150 --> 12:39.869 are married , your family members have 12:39.880 --> 12:43.109 a choice , they can use Tricare Select , 12:43.119 --> 12:45.239 which is a PPO like thing where they 12:45.250 --> 12:47.510 don't need referrals or they can use 12:47.559 --> 12:51.030 Tricare Prime . Humana , which is a 12:51.320 --> 12:54.270 referral . Tricare select does have 12:54.280 --> 12:56.280 some cost out of pocket even when 12:56.289 --> 12:58.289 you're active duty . So your family 12:58.289 --> 13:00.460 members do pay some cost . Tricare 13:00.469 --> 13:04.169 Prime is 100% free if you use it , the 13:04.179 --> 13:06.290 way you're supposed to use it , going 13:06.290 --> 13:08.289 to a , you know , civilian doctor 13:08.299 --> 13:10.890 getting a referral and then uh you know , 13:10.900 --> 13:13.011 getting going to the specialist after 13:13.011 --> 13:15.344 seeing through using the referral again , 13:15.344 --> 13:17.799 um with Humana , they assign you a 13:17.809 --> 13:21.789 doctor . So us family health plan is a 13:21.799 --> 13:24.809 Tricare prime option for the families 13:24.960 --> 13:28.429 and we strictly use civilian doctors , 13:28.440 --> 13:31.270 you cannot use the MTF with us , the 13:31.280 --> 13:33.447 family members would not be able to go 13:33.447 --> 13:35.679 to Maguire , they would have to use any 13:35.690 --> 13:38.669 kind of civilian doctors . So the 13:38.679 --> 13:41.070 difference between us and them is is a 13:41.080 --> 13:43.549 little bit of the referral process . 13:43.559 --> 13:45.770 And then , and then us family health 13:45.780 --> 13:49.039 plan has some extra benefits . My 13:49.049 --> 13:51.520 feelings about the Tricare prime option 13:51.530 --> 13:55.010 is it depends on where your doctors are . 13:55.020 --> 13:57.640 What kind of what doctor you use ? If 13:57.650 --> 14:00.940 your doctor is in the US Family Health 14:00.950 --> 14:03.789 Plan network , then then this family 14:03.799 --> 14:05.910 could switch to us family health plan 14:05.960 --> 14:08.210 and , and use us family health plan . 14:08.219 --> 14:11.419 If the doctors are in humana and that 14:11.429 --> 14:13.540 the family , the spouse does not want 14:13.549 --> 14:15.549 to switch because you know , you're 14:15.549 --> 14:17.882 here in doing your military duty and if , 14:17.882 --> 14:19.827 if your spouse is not happy , then 14:19.827 --> 14:21.938 you're not gonna be happy and we need 14:21.938 --> 14:23.882 everybody to be happy . So if your 14:23.882 --> 14:26.405 spouse uses doctors that take humana , 14:26.414 --> 14:28.844 then we want them to stay there . Ok ? 14:28.854 --> 14:31.645 So that's my feelings about the whole . 14:31.655 --> 14:33.655 Ok . Which , which plan is better , 14:33.655 --> 14:35.711 which is better ? Well , it's what's 14:35.711 --> 14:37.877 best for the family , you know , um if 14:37.877 --> 14:40.104 you don't have doctors , I can with you 14:40.135 --> 14:42.302 family health plan , we would help you 14:42.302 --> 14:44.468 find a doctor . So that's not a that's 14:44.468 --> 14:47.869 not AAA deal breaker . Um I , again , I 14:47.880 --> 14:50.047 like the plan for several things . One 14:50.047 --> 14:52.700 thing that uh we added and we'll start 14:52.710 --> 14:55.390 in April is we were , we'll have 14:55.400 --> 14:58.010 chiropractic care acupuncture and , oh , 14:58.020 --> 15:00.242 I know . I see your eyes going big . We 15:00.242 --> 15:03.190 have , it's not available for any , 15:03.200 --> 15:05.690 even civilian insurance and we're gonna 15:05.700 --> 15:07.811 be making this available chiropractic 15:07.811 --> 15:10.089 care 12 times a year , massage therapy , 15:10.089 --> 15:12.256 six times a year and acupuncture , six 15:12.256 --> 15:14.632 times a year . It'll be a small $20 15:14.643 --> 15:17.862 copay , but that starts April 1st of , 15:17.872 --> 15:20.942 of 2023 . So , so we're really , really 15:20.953 --> 15:23.312 excited about that . It will be part of 15:23.322 --> 15:27.002 the benefit . Um That's for , that's 15:27.013 --> 15:29.013 for , that's , well , it's actually 15:29.013 --> 15:31.069 under Tricare Prime . Yeah , Tricare 15:31.069 --> 15:33.180 Prom , it's only for family members , 15:33.252 --> 15:36.523 ok ? Or uh it will be available for 15:36.533 --> 15:38.362 those that are coming off of a 15:38.372 --> 15:41.625 contingency order . So if they do 31 15:41.635 --> 15:43.815 days or more of contingency , they go 15:43.825 --> 15:46.166 into what they call tamp and that's a 15:46.176 --> 15:48.676 six month of free health care just as 15:48.685 --> 15:50.716 if they were active duty . At that 15:50.726 --> 15:52.837 point , they could also use us family 15:52.837 --> 15:55.276 health plan . So it's , it's a little 15:55.286 --> 15:58.435 confusing . I get that . Uh but I'm 15:58.445 --> 16:01.796 here at the 1/11 to help everybody 16:01.806 --> 16:03.862 navigate . Sure . And I'm gonna have 16:03.862 --> 16:05.973 you share your , your info at the end 16:05.973 --> 16:07.639 of this month . So just a few 16:07.639 --> 16:09.862 clarifying questions . So because folks 16:09.862 --> 16:11.584 at this base and again , folks 16:11.584 --> 16:13.639 listening , go on MP A tours all the 16:13.639 --> 16:15.584 time and all these duties and this 16:15.584 --> 16:17.362 isn't , we're not talking about 16:17.362 --> 16:19.362 deploying overseas . That's a whole 16:19.362 --> 16:21.584 different category , right ? Um At some 16:21.584 --> 16:23.750 level or no , is it because the orders 16:23.750 --> 16:23.599 are orders and family members have to 16:23.609 --> 16:25.950 be in a status . Well , it , it is , it 16:25.960 --> 16:28.799 is there , there is no matter what the 16:28.809 --> 16:30.865 active duty orders is an active duty 16:30.865 --> 16:33.099 order , it's what goes on after is 16:33.109 --> 16:35.520 whether it's contingency or not , if 16:35.530 --> 16:38.119 you have the extra six months . So 16:38.130 --> 16:40.599 basically if you're on active duty here 16:40.609 --> 16:42.989 and you're doing a oss orders or you're 16:43.000 --> 16:44.880 doing any kind of order that is 16:44.890 --> 16:47.400 considered a and you're staying here uh 16:47.409 --> 16:50.140 on the base that is considered mostly 16:50.150 --> 16:53.650 con um you know , in house or , or in 16:53.659 --> 16:55.780 state side . So those aren't 16:55.789 --> 16:58.119 contingencies . So there's no follow on 16:58.130 --> 17:00.880 a GR tour . Let's talk about the A GRS . 17:00.890 --> 17:03.419 When your A GR tour ends , then your 17:03.429 --> 17:07.300 health care ends . Ok ? But if you were 17:07.310 --> 17:11.260 a deployed for more than 31 days , then 17:11.270 --> 17:13.880 you have that six months of free health 17:13.890 --> 17:16.680 care afterwards . So that , that's , 17:16.689 --> 17:19.510 that's just the differences in the and 17:19.520 --> 17:22.900 the length of , of your health care . I 17:22.910 --> 17:24.910 think what , what's confusing too ? 17:24.910 --> 17:26.910 Maybe you can clarify . This is the 17:26.910 --> 17:29.132 moment someone goes on orders , right ? 17:29.132 --> 17:32.520 Endears some triggers , right ? Is 17:32.530 --> 17:35.329 there a default health care that gets 17:35.339 --> 17:37.617 assigned ? Is that what happened ? Yes , 17:37.617 --> 17:39.783 talk about that first . Ok . So that's 17:39.783 --> 17:41.728 so Humana is the default . So what 17:41.728 --> 17:44.780 happens is , is , and so what happens 17:44.790 --> 17:46.901 is , is when you put on active duty , 17:46.901 --> 17:50.729 orders your family and you are assigned 17:50.739 --> 17:53.689 to Humana and assigned a doctor . 17:53.699 --> 17:55.532 Everybody is assigned a doctor . 17:55.532 --> 17:58.000 Everybody is assigned to Humana . And 17:58.010 --> 18:00.869 that is the default if you , uh , when 18:00.880 --> 18:02.936 you come off of orders and you're in 18:02.936 --> 18:05.102 that contingency , uh , they , uh , by 18:05.102 --> 18:07.158 the way , they assign you to Tricare 18:07.158 --> 18:09.324 Prime or Tricare Prime remote , as you 18:09.324 --> 18:11.547 said , depending on where you live when 18:11.547 --> 18:13.713 you come off of active duty orders and 18:13.713 --> 18:15.824 you're in contingency , they put them 18:15.824 --> 18:17.770 in Tricare select because a lot of 18:17.780 --> 18:19.780 people don't realize that they're , 18:19.920 --> 18:22.300 that they're assigned to a doctor and , 18:22.310 --> 18:24.530 or that they don't even know that they 18:24.540 --> 18:27.550 have insurance . I , I deal a lot with , 18:27.560 --> 18:30.579 uh , our service members that come home 18:30.589 --> 18:32.867 that go into the yellow ribbon program . 18:32.867 --> 18:34.811 The yellow ribbon program does not 18:34.811 --> 18:37.439 start until 90 days after they deploy . 18:37.449 --> 18:39.939 Right . So it's , it's not like here 18:39.949 --> 18:42.116 where we have reconstitution and , and 18:42.116 --> 18:44.116 we have Anna and we have a fabulous 18:44.116 --> 18:46.189 team here , but a lot of our , our 18:46.199 --> 18:49.040 guardsmen or reservists will come home 18:49.050 --> 18:51.106 and not see anybody till after their 18:51.106 --> 18:53.520 90th day . And then after that , they 18:53.530 --> 18:55.641 cannot make any changes because , you 18:55.641 --> 18:57.863 know , you have that only 90 day window 18:57.863 --> 18:59.863 to make changes . And that to me is 18:59.863 --> 19:01.863 kind of sad . So they come home and 19:01.863 --> 19:04.000 they're auto assigned Tricare Select 19:04.089 --> 19:06.239 and then they have to pay fees out of 19:06.250 --> 19:08.859 pocket for certain things instead of 19:08.869 --> 19:11.091 the Tricare Prime where they could have 19:11.091 --> 19:14.439 free again . It , it's , it's a little 19:14.449 --> 19:17.469 confusing but I think I think one of 19:17.479 --> 19:19.646 our service members to realize is that 19:19.646 --> 19:21.757 they depress into this benefit , know 19:21.757 --> 19:23.979 when you're going on orders , know when 19:23.979 --> 19:26.090 you're coming off orders . That's all 19:26.090 --> 19:28.146 you need to do and go to these , the 19:28.146 --> 19:27.859 sites that , that Tammy talked about . 19:27.869 --> 19:29.925 But also Tammy , I want you to share 19:29.925 --> 19:32.380 your contact info , right ? So you um 19:32.449 --> 19:34.449 you're available to help people out 19:34.449 --> 19:36.630 with these things . So I , I highly 19:36.640 --> 19:38.862 recommend you help me . And um I have a 19:38.862 --> 19:41.084 question , personal question once we're 19:41.084 --> 19:43.196 done here because you , you triggered 19:43.196 --> 19:42.780 something to me about this uh 19:43.089 --> 19:45.760 chiropractic work , um chiropractic 19:45.770 --> 19:49.209 benefit . But call Tammy , she's gonna 19:49.219 --> 19:51.275 help you , she'll guide you , she'll 19:51.275 --> 19:53.497 give you what you need to know . Um I , 19:53.497 --> 19:55.552 I was going to a doc , in fact , you 19:55.552 --> 19:57.719 helped me out or I didn't realize that 19:57.719 --> 19:57.449 my doc didn't , didn't accept the child 19:57.459 --> 19:59.570 care and I was , I was standard and I 19:59.570 --> 20:01.681 was prime and didn't know and you got 20:01.689 --> 20:03.800 me straight . So , I it's , it's , it 20:03.800 --> 20:05.856 was , it worked out really well . We 20:05.856 --> 20:07.911 just don't know , we don't know . So 20:07.911 --> 20:10.022 you're a , you're a resource , you're 20:10.022 --> 20:11.967 pinpointed contact here . I highly 20:11.967 --> 20:14.078 recommend um Before I , before I have 20:14.078 --> 20:16.078 you share your info because again , 20:16.078 --> 20:15.800 we're targeting right now , we're 20:15.810 --> 20:18.339 talking about our wink . But I know 20:18.349 --> 20:20.571 folks that are gonna listen to this and 20:20.571 --> 20:22.793 they could be outside of Pennsylvania . 20:22.793 --> 20:26.670 Um How do individuals find you in other 20:26.680 --> 20:29.530 regions around the US ? So , us family 20:29.540 --> 20:31.707 health plan really is only here in the 20:31.707 --> 20:33.929 northeast in Corpus Christi , Texas and 20:33.929 --> 20:36.209 up in uh the northwest and we call it 20:36.219 --> 20:39.310 pack med up in Washington State . Um 20:39.319 --> 20:41.597 The northeast here we have south of us . 20:41.597 --> 20:43.430 We have Johns Hopkins , which is 20:43.430 --> 20:45.729 expanding . They go from Delaware , 20:45.739 --> 20:47.795 they're going down to North Carolina 20:47.795 --> 20:50.255 and over to West Virginia and they have 20:50.265 --> 20:52.598 uh parts of Pennsylvania and Harrisburg , 20:52.714 --> 20:54.658 north of us , we have what we call 20:54.658 --> 20:56.603 Martin's Point . They start out in 20:56.603 --> 20:58.547 Maine . They come all the way down 20:58.547 --> 21:00.547 across the top of Pennsylvania into 21:00.547 --> 21:02.714 Pittsburgh . Now , so if you retire in 21:02.714 --> 21:04.770 Pittsburgh , they , you'll have a US 21:04.770 --> 21:06.825 Family Health plan there and they're 21:06.825 --> 21:08.992 gonna stretch into Ohio and , and West 21:08.992 --> 21:11.158 Virginia as well . And then , um , and 21:11.158 --> 21:12.658 then in the little area of 21:12.658 --> 21:14.881 Massachusetts , you have what they call 21:14.881 --> 21:17.158 Brighton Moraine us Family Health Plan . 21:17.158 --> 21:19.214 Um , and then , excuse me , and then 21:19.214 --> 21:21.325 here I'm from us Family health Plan . 21:21.325 --> 21:23.436 Saint Vincent's based out of New York 21:23.436 --> 21:25.979 City . We have parts of Connecticut up 21:25.989 --> 21:28.859 through Hartford . We have uh parts of 21:28.869 --> 21:31.036 New York , all of Long Island , all of 21:31.036 --> 21:33.202 New York , the boroughs all the way up 21:33.202 --> 21:35.530 to West Point and Orange County . And 21:35.540 --> 21:37.859 then we have all of New Jersey . And 21:37.869 --> 21:39.869 here in Pennsylvania , I was really 21:39.869 --> 21:41.980 excited to be part of the expansion . 21:41.980 --> 21:44.579 Um I was Philadelphia Chester , um 21:45.109 --> 21:47.276 Bucks Montgomery and Delaware County . 21:47.276 --> 21:49.569 And then now we expanded all the way up 21:49.579 --> 21:53.140 to Monroe Carbon Lehigh , North Hampton 21:53.219 --> 21:55.660 School Hill . Which I , ok . Good . I 21:55.670 --> 21:57.614 pronounced that right . I think in 21:57.614 --> 21:59.781 Berks County . So , so we're almost to 21:59.781 --> 22:01.892 fig almost 40 Indian Town Gap where , 22:01.900 --> 22:04.430 and we're in Tobyhanna . Uh , um , in 22:04.439 --> 22:07.305 fact , I , I go their weekly . Um , I'm 22:07.314 --> 22:09.744 available by phone . 11 thing I wanted 22:09.755 --> 22:11.811 to mention if I could back up just a 22:11.811 --> 22:14.094 minute is , is we talk about the base 22:14.104 --> 22:16.271 here and I was just talking to a young 22:16.271 --> 22:18.594 man this morning about one of the 22:18.604 --> 22:21.435 reasons to stay in the service . Ok . 22:21.505 --> 22:24.025 And Tricare is a really , really good 22:24.035 --> 22:27.680 reason to stay in . Um I just turned 22:27.689 --> 22:31.680 60 October 1st and I am 22:31.689 --> 22:34.219 just became eligible for my Tricare 22:34.229 --> 22:36.739 benefits and got my , of course , got 22:36.750 --> 22:40.689 my first retirement check on . That 22:40.719 --> 22:42.830 was a big thing for those , for those 22:42.830 --> 22:45.280 in the traditional guard uh , status . 22:45.290 --> 22:47.457 Um , it is a really big thing for us . 22:47.457 --> 22:49.660 So at 60 years old , you can get your 22:49.670 --> 22:52.390 benefits as a retiree . Uh , you , you 22:52.400 --> 22:54.456 know , you , you , you got that gray 22:54.456 --> 22:56.400 area , you know where I was for 12 22:56.400 --> 22:58.656 years , I was a gray area retiree where 22:58.666 --> 23:00.895 you don't or you can get benefit , but 23:00.906 --> 23:03.073 it's $1200 a month for a family . It's 23:03.073 --> 23:05.446 very , very expensive . But when you 23:05.456 --> 23:08.745 turn 60 you , it , it drastically drops . 23:08.755 --> 23:11.036 I , I pay 26 99 a month right now for 23:11.046 --> 23:13.375 my insurance . I mean , seriously I'm 23:13.385 --> 23:15.718 single so I get that , I get the single , 23:15.718 --> 23:17.941 uh , uh , uh , family rate right now is 23:17.941 --> 23:20.416 like $54 a month . It's like the same , 23:20.812 --> 23:23.322 so cheap . So , so when I was talking 23:23.332 --> 23:25.665 to a young man this morning , it's like , 23:25.665 --> 23:27.721 weigh your reasons for staying , you 23:27.721 --> 23:29.888 know , you got , you got , you got not 23:29.888 --> 23:31.888 only health care benefits , you got 23:31.888 --> 23:34.054 your retirement , you get , you know , 23:34.054 --> 23:36.110 education benefits for your family . 23:36.110 --> 23:38.332 You know , here in Pennsylvania , I'm , 23:38.332 --> 23:40.388 I'm part of , I'm part of a bunch of 23:40.388 --> 23:42.554 organizations . Pens being one of them 23:42.554 --> 23:42.291 and , and they're out there fighting 23:42.302 --> 23:44.358 for our service members to get these 23:44.358 --> 23:46.135 benefits , but your health care 23:46.135 --> 23:49.267 benefits and then at 65 you get Tricare 23:49.478 --> 23:51.534 for life . I mean , Tricare for life 23:51.534 --> 23:54.197 means that all you pay nothing but your 23:54.208 --> 23:56.375 Medicare , that's it . So , I mean , I 23:56.378 --> 23:58.697 know these 20 year olds and 25 year 23:58.767 --> 24:01.067 olds and you know , but you blink , you 24:01.078 --> 24:04.567 literally blink and you're 60 you blink 24:04.578 --> 24:06.522 and you're 65 and that's why we're 24:06.522 --> 24:08.689 doing this podcast because we get , we 24:08.689 --> 24:11.488 quickly our lives change a dime . You , 24:11.498 --> 24:13.578 you're 25 and you , you find someone 24:13.588 --> 24:15.699 and you get married and you have kids 24:15.699 --> 24:19.163 and you 28 and you just , you blink and 24:19.173 --> 24:21.006 now you're like , oh my gosh , I 24:21.006 --> 24:23.117 financially I can't afford the health 24:23.117 --> 24:25.284 insurance . And what about this , what 24:25.284 --> 24:25.124 about that ? So , you know , we're 24:25.134 --> 24:27.301 trying to keep this up for our folks , 24:27.301 --> 24:29.467 Tammy , right ? So we can prepare them 24:29.467 --> 24:31.412 this is a great benefit for them . 24:31.412 --> 24:33.634 Exactly . Exactly . It , it is such a , 24:33.634 --> 24:35.801 it's such a great and it's a reason to 24:35.801 --> 24:38.394 continue on to stay in the service . I 24:38.404 --> 24:40.494 mean , this is , this is one of our 24:40.504 --> 24:43.144 best retention tools , uh , so to speak . 24:43.154 --> 24:45.709 But , but it's not just , it's really , 24:45.719 --> 24:48.069 really a benefit for our , our service 24:48.079 --> 24:50.329 members and , and for the , the young 24:50.339 --> 24:53.800 ones out there . I mean , they , it's 24:53.810 --> 24:55.869 just , it's , especially with the 24:55.880 --> 24:58.102 families , especially with the families 24:58.102 --> 25:00.280 to , to have this available again . 25:00.290 --> 25:02.512 Yeah , you're right . 10 years ago when 25:02.512 --> 25:04.623 I retired or when I was in , I didn't 25:04.623 --> 25:06.901 have the Tricare Reserve select option . 25:06.901 --> 25:09.012 That was not , that was not available 25:09.012 --> 25:10.734 to me . And I mentioned at the 25:10.734 --> 25:12.846 beginning that wasn't available to me 25:12.846 --> 25:15.179 my first several , several years either . 25:15.179 --> 25:17.234 I came in in 03 and again , I didn't 25:17.234 --> 25:19.234 become something until 11 , I think 25:19.234 --> 25:21.234 right , somewhere around there . So 25:21.234 --> 25:23.290 when , when it did , I , I saw the , 25:23.290 --> 25:25.290 the huge impact financially and not 25:25.290 --> 25:27.512 even just not financial impact , but it 25:27.512 --> 25:29.568 is easy to work with . Once you're , 25:29.568 --> 25:31.623 once you're in humanity , you know , 25:31.623 --> 25:33.457 your docs and the , the referral 25:33.457 --> 25:35.679 process there really isn't . It's not , 25:35.679 --> 25:37.790 it's difficult at all now , depending 25:37.790 --> 25:39.846 on what you're under . Sometimes you 25:39.846 --> 25:38.920 need a referral , sometimes you don't , 25:38.930 --> 25:41.097 but it's not that difficult . You just 25:41.097 --> 25:43.374 got to get in a little bit test it out . 25:43.374 --> 25:45.319 But I think people don't know what 25:45.319 --> 25:45.010 they're doing . So that's why you're 25:45.020 --> 25:47.242 sitting over there and you're giving us 25:47.242 --> 25:49.353 this info and I'd love for you now to 25:49.353 --> 25:51.409 share and I'll make sure that in the 25:51.409 --> 25:53.631 podcast that they're gonna , if folks , 25:53.631 --> 25:55.742 if you're viewing this , um , through 25:55.742 --> 25:57.798 youtube , uh I'm gonna do my best to 25:57.798 --> 25:59.520 talk to the producers here are 25:59.520 --> 26:01.742 tremendous public affairs team and make 26:01.742 --> 26:03.853 sure that Tammy's info is up in the , 26:03.853 --> 26:06.020 the actual video , but she'll , she'll 26:06.020 --> 26:08.242 go ahead and communicate it right now . 26:08.242 --> 26:10.298 Um You share whatever you want , you 26:10.298 --> 26:09.834 want to share your number and your 26:09.844 --> 26:12.011 email or whatever you'd like . But I'd 26:12.011 --> 26:13.955 like you to share that with uh the 26:13.955 --> 26:16.066 audience here . So I have um I have a 26:16.066 --> 26:18.177 direct phone line . Uh but we do have 26:18.177 --> 26:20.233 an 800 number as well , but my phone 26:20.233 --> 26:19.589 line directly is 26:19.599 --> 26:25.180 6462845736 26:25.390 --> 26:26.010 again 26:26.020 --> 26:31.229 6462845736 . 26:31.979 --> 26:34.040 My email , well , the email is 26:34.050 --> 26:37.619 complicated . It's T Cartagena at 26:38.030 --> 26:41.560 svc mc ny dot org . Yeah , they might 26:41.569 --> 26:43.569 want to put that one up on a , on a 26:43.569 --> 26:46.310 cast and then , and then if you can't 26:46.319 --> 26:48.541 get a hold of me for some reason , I do 26:48.541 --> 26:50.959 take some vacation and I have grandkids . 26:51.150 --> 26:53.150 So you don't take off all you do is 26:53.150 --> 26:56.380 work .
