WEBVTT 00:02.970 --> 00:06.010 For Kodiak Arctic care . 24 personnel 00:06.019 --> 00:08.130 from across the United States uniform 00:08.130 --> 00:10.352 services under the innovative readiness 00:10.352 --> 00:12.352 training program partnered with the 00:12.352 --> 00:14.939 Kodiak area Native Association to 00:14.949 --> 00:17.819 deliver no cost medical dental 00:17.829 --> 00:20.600 optometry and veterinary services to 00:20.610 --> 00:22.388 residents across geographically 00:22.388 --> 00:25.260 dispersed care sites in Alaska's remote 00:25.270 --> 00:27.879 Kodiak Island borough . So the RT 00:27.889 --> 00:29.889 starts actually with an application 00:29.889 --> 00:32.000 from the community partner . They put 00:32.000 --> 00:34.111 in a request for care to be delivered 00:34.111 --> 00:36.619 here in Kodiak , Alaska and then that 00:36.630 --> 00:39.950 request is reviewed and if the request 00:39.959 --> 00:42.950 and the military needs for a mission 00:42.959 --> 00:45.659 match , then they are granted an I RT . 00:45.880 --> 00:48.159 Normally a 9.5 hour ferry ride from 00:48.169 --> 00:50.280 Anchorage , they loaded equipment and 00:50.280 --> 00:52.560 personnel onto ac 17 Globemaster joint 00:52.569 --> 00:54.750 base , Elmendorf Richardson and flew 00:54.759 --> 00:57.459 over to set up for the mission . The it 00:57.470 --> 00:59.581 is exclusive to the United States and 00:59.581 --> 01:01.748 its territories . It provides training 01:01.748 --> 01:03.803 opportunities to increase deployment 01:03.803 --> 01:05.970 readiness in addition to health care . 01:05.970 --> 01:08.192 Some of the other key services and past 01:08.192 --> 01:09.859 IRT S included construction , 01:09.859 --> 01:12.059 transportation and cyber security 01:13.040 --> 01:15.262 technical training was one of the areas 01:15.262 --> 01:17.040 of focus on this mission . It's 01:17.040 --> 01:19.151 actually pretty exciting to be around 01:19.151 --> 01:21.151 with such a diverse group of people 01:21.151 --> 01:22.873 from different walks of life , 01:22.873 --> 01:24.818 different professions , all coming 01:24.818 --> 01:26.984 together for a common or single goal . 01:26.984 --> 01:29.318 We have people here that in the outside , 01:29.318 --> 01:31.373 they are firemen , but here snapping 01:31.373 --> 01:33.550 dental x rays and doing whatever they 01:33.559 --> 01:35.670 can to help the mission succeed . And 01:35.670 --> 01:37.503 that's kind of a lot of what the 01:37.503 --> 01:39.503 military is about and just having a 01:39.503 --> 01:39.309 common goal and then everyone working 01:39.319 --> 01:41.375 together to achieve it . So , one of 01:41.375 --> 01:43.430 the unique factors of the mission is 01:43.430 --> 01:45.430 that all the military personnel are 01:45.430 --> 01:47.597 comprised of a joint and multinational 01:47.597 --> 01:49.819 force when everyone is here and they're 01:49.819 --> 01:52.041 not out at the villages . There's about 01:52.041 --> 01:54.041 three that were serving . When they 01:54.041 --> 01:56.263 left the villages , we lost some of our 01:56.263 --> 01:56.252 workers in the kitchen because they 01:56.263 --> 01:58.485 would go to these villages and cook for 01:58.572 --> 02:00.628 the medical team that was there . So 02:00.628 --> 02:02.794 two of my younger airmen gave them the 02:02.794 --> 02:04.961 opportunity to go and do that and they 02:04.961 --> 02:07.128 cooked on their own separate from each 02:07.128 --> 02:09.016 other . Marines working alongside 02:09.016 --> 02:11.183 airmen , soldiers shoulder to shoulder 02:11.183 --> 02:13.183 with sailors , even the Coast Guard 02:13.183 --> 02:15.294 along the United States public health 02:15.294 --> 02:17.350 service , all doing the heavy lift . 02:17.350 --> 02:19.350 This is the norm for this mission , 02:19.350 --> 02:21.294 utilizing all this expertise for a 02:21.294 --> 02:23.072 simple goal to provide a better 02:23.072 --> 02:25.294 standard of health care , mixed in with 02:25.294 --> 02:27.461 a warm attitude in a colder region . I 02:27.461 --> 02:29.239 volunteered . I was like , I'll 02:29.239 --> 02:28.996 definitely do it and I know I'll 02:29.005 --> 02:31.175 definitely enjoy this experience . One 02:31.186 --> 02:34.369 because I've never been to Alaska two 02:34.399 --> 02:37.110 because I love being part of something 02:37.119 --> 02:39.119 that is greater than myself if that 02:39.119 --> 02:41.119 makes sense . So I love helping out 02:41.119 --> 02:44.160 people and being , being able to 02:44.169 --> 02:46.429 provide them this care and being able 02:46.440 --> 02:48.496 to make sure that people are getting 02:48.496 --> 02:51.110 the proper health care . They need a 02:51.130 --> 02:53.479 main highlight for this . I RT was the 02:53.490 --> 02:56.000 mass casualty training scenario that 02:56.009 --> 02:58.176 tested the region's first response and 02:58.176 --> 02:59.779 critical care programs . 03:02.630 --> 03:04.852 Partnering with the local trauma center 03:04.852 --> 03:06.963 providence health care , the military 03:06.963 --> 03:08.963 members , in addition to the area , 03:08.963 --> 03:11.130 first responders simulated an aircraft 03:11.130 --> 03:13.352 accident . This tested the strength and 03:13.352 --> 03:15.519 weaknesses of the region . So everyone 03:15.519 --> 03:17.630 here will be better prepared . Should 03:17.630 --> 03:18.797 an actual incident ? 03:23.490 --> 03:25.910 It helps to identify where our 03:26.320 --> 03:28.542 resources are limited , you know how we 03:28.542 --> 03:32.399 respond next time we hit that snag what 03:32.410 --> 03:35.169 we can do to try to prevent any sort of 03:35.639 --> 03:38.190 time delay for patient care . Past I 03:38.229 --> 03:40.429 RTs have focused a lot more on the 03:40.440 --> 03:42.273 humanitarian mission , providing 03:42.273 --> 03:44.500 medical and veterinary care . And if we 03:44.509 --> 03:46.676 get the chance we do some training for 03:46.676 --> 03:48.453 our folks while we're there and 03:48.453 --> 03:50.509 sometimes it's organized better than 03:50.509 --> 03:52.731 others . This one was phenomenally well 03:52.731 --> 03:54.898 organized in advance with a lot of the 03:54.898 --> 03:56.731 locals where we trained not only 03:56.731 --> 03:58.787 ourselves with multiple thousands of 03:58.787 --> 04:00.953 hours of training for our personnel on 04:00.953 --> 04:02.731 the ground , but integrated our 04:02.731 --> 04:04.964 personnel with civilian personnel with 04:04.975 --> 04:07.035 that same training . Overall , the 04:07.044 --> 04:09.211 legacy of this mission will last a lot 04:09.211 --> 04:11.433 longer than the snow on the snow capped 04:11.433 --> 04:13.544 mountains . Surrounding the horizon . 04:13.544 --> 04:15.655 With those challenges , it gives them 04:15.655 --> 04:17.433 the opportunity to grow both in 04:17.433 --> 04:19.655 leadership and experience . And there's 04:19.655 --> 04:21.600 been a lot of mentoring , a lot of 04:21.600 --> 04:23.766 training that's gone on here . And the 04:23.766 --> 04:25.988 goal is to leave not just a legacy here 04:25.988 --> 04:27.933 on the island , but to prepare our 04:27.933 --> 04:30.155 members for conflict in the future that 04:30.155 --> 04:32.044 they can't even yet anticipate in 04:32.044 --> 04:34.274 Kodiak , Alaska with Kodiak Care 24 04:34.640 --> 04:37.880 master Sergeant George Roach , Those 04:37.970 --> 04:38.910 people .
