Pennsylvania Air National Guard Maj. Andrew Neubauer, assumed command of the 111th Security Forces Squadron by accepting the unit’s colors from PAANG Col. Christine Munch, 111th Mission Support Group Commander, during a ceremony at Biddle Air National Guard Base in Horsham, Pennsylvania, Oct. 16, 2022.

Neubauer assumed command from Lt. Col. Alex Van Zant, who assumed command of the 111th SFS in November of 2021 as the unit awaited Neubauer’s official transfer from active duty.

Chief Master Sgt. Kenneth Gabor, 111th SFS senior enlisted leader, gave his thoughts on the leadership transition and Van Zant’s impact on the 111th SFS.

“Lt. Col. Van Zant was an incredible commander for the 111th SFS,” said Gabor. “His strong leadership and care for each member paved the way for the unit to continue to succeed. Though he always knew his time here was for only 12 months, he created a seamless transition to Maj. Neubauer, which is always crucial for a squadron’s transition.”

Gabor went on to say the 111th SFS is in good hands with Neubauer at the helm.

“Maj. Neubauer brings a lot of experience from the active duty as an SF commander,” said Gabor. “His time in the career field combined with his drive to ensure the success of the squadron will ensure long into the future that the 111th SFS will be ready for anything that comes its way. We have been extremely fortunate to have such great commanders in SF. From Lt. Col. Van Zant, a pilot from our operations side of the house with a law-enforcement background, to a squadron commander who brings a new perspective on the career field from the active-duty mindset. Security Forces is truly setup to continue to thrive.”

In his welcome speech, Neubauer said he is excited for the opportunity to lead the Security Forces team.

“I am excited to be in Pennsylvania officially,” said Neubauer. “I look forward to being able to work with you all for many months.”

Neubauer reflected on how honored he is to be given the responsibility of command and thanked the 111th SFS personnel for their support.

“This is one of the highest honors in the United States Air Force and the military in general and I am humbled to just have this opportunity,” said Neubauer. “I am indescribably excited to be joining one of the most high-functioning organizations here at the 111th ATKW. I look forward to all that we're going to accomplish and just thank you all for coming out.”
