Archive bearing name of famed WWII correspondent donated to Wing
Scraps of notebook paper reveling combat activity on Ie Shima Island, now known as Iejima, in April of 1945 are donated to the 111th Attack Wing’s Historian Office on Jan. 21, 2016. Army World War II veteran, Louis Vitola salvaged the several ledger pages from a waste basket while staged on Cebu Island with the 77th Infantry Division, in September 1945. The written note identifies the death of famous war correspondent Ernie Pyle. (U.S. Air National Guard photo by Master Sgt. Chris Botzum)
